Call to prayer for the SA Government

Call to prayer for the SA Government
(Issued by Jericho Walls Prayer Network – 6/2/17)

The South African Parliament is due to open this week, beginning with the SONA by the President on 9 February, and followed by the Annual Budget on 22 February. There are bound to be lively debate, controversy, political re-shuffling and the inevitable critique from opposing political parties.

Let us pray:

1.      Bring the President, MP’s and MEC’s before the throne in heaven. Ask the Lord to take hold of their hearts and to direct it to His purposes for peace, stability and the benefit of the whole of South Africa (Pro 21:1 (ESV) The king’s heart is a stream of water in the hand of the LORD; he turns it wherever he will.)

2.      Pray that the President’s choices for Cabinet ministers and other influential posts will be divinely influenced and controlled by the Holy Spirit, that corrupt and wicked councillors will not get a foothold, and for men and women of peace, integrity and good moral values, to surround our President. Pray for the restoration of a moral conscience in our government, that leaders will be convicted regarding sin, righteousness and judgment, will discern between right and wrong, good and evil and who will acknowledge the sovereignty of God and Lordship of Jesus Christ (Pro 11:14 (ESV) Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety; Pro 25:5 (ESV) take away the wicked from the presence of the king, and his throne will be established in righteousness.)

3.      Pray that every wicked scheme that hinder and resist God’s purposes for South Africa, will fail and that every corrupt and hidden agenda will be exposed and brought to nothing. (Dan 2:21 (ESV) He changes times and seasons; he removes kings and sets up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding; Eph 5:13 (ESV) But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible.)

4.      Pray for bold and godly leaders to arise in the leadership of both the church and our nation, who will speak words of life, peace, wisdom and hope, and so influence the minds and hearts of the citizens of South Africa that we will truly be reconciled to each other, willingly reach out to those in need, and publicly take a stand for righteousness and moral integrity (1Ti 2:1-4 (ESV) First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.)

5.      Pray for every Christian in our nation to awaken to the responsibility given to the Body Christ, to selflessly love and serve other, that we will guard our hearts and watch our words and so become an instrument of healing, reconciliation and restoration in the hand of our God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ (Rom 12:10,12,14 (ESV) Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honour. [12] Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. [14] Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them.)
