| 40 days of Prayer for Revival (SA) | Redigging the wells of Revival: 3-12 April 2010
As we commemorate the 150th anniversary of the 1860 revival in South Africa, we encourage people to pray with renewed fervency for revival in our nation. From 3-12 April we invite all those towns and cities that experienced revival over the past 350 years in South Africa to arrange special initiatives to pray that God will show us mercy and again open the wells of revival in their city/town.
At Jericho Walls we have drawn up a list of 74 cities and towns that we could find that experienced revival over the past 150 years. There are certainly more, but these are the ones we know about right now. This list is available on request. Should you know of revivals in towns that are not listed, please let us know so we can update the list. You can also contact us if you want to know if there is already someone on our database from your city or town who has indicated that they wish to be involved in this initiative. Contact Anneke Hanekom at tel.: 012 365 3213 or fax: 012 365 3214 or e-mail: info@global24-7.org
What to do during these 10 days: 1. Find a group of people, if possible from different denominations, and plan to gather every day for ten days to pray for your city/town. Among other things, you can use the prayer pointers in the Jericho Walls prayer guide. 2. Give thanks to the Lord for His great deeds in the past and ask Him to repeat them in your community (Isa.64:1-5; Ps.85:6). 3. Read Acts 2:17-21 and pray according to these verses, that God will again pour out His Spirit upon your city/town and open the former wells of revival. 4. Where possible, consider setting up a 24-7 prayer room or prayer wall (schedule), to pray for the whole ten days. Consider a central venue where all churches can come together to meet for prayer. 5. Revisit the different places in your city/town/community where you know previous revivals started. If you are uncertain, you may consider contacting Jericho Walls or do some research on the history of your community. 6. Take time to worship and praise God for His great deeds (Num.21:17; Isa.12:3). 7. Humble yourselves before Him. Ask His forgiveness for the evident sins of your town/city and the lack of devotion to the Lord. Pray that He will once again visit your community. | | Download article | | | | Related articles: | | 1860 Herlewing in SA | | 1860 Revival in SA | | 40 Dae van gebed vir herlewing | | 40 Days of Prayer for Revival | | History of revival and church in SA

| Call to Prayer for the Global Water Crisis | SUGGESTED GUIDELINES FOR PRAYER Water is mentioned in the first chapter of Genesis, the last chapter of Revelation and several hundred times throughout Scripture. Water is often used in scripture to communicate God’s character and provision for all creation and for every living creature. Without water, there is no life—spiritually or physically.
As you engage in strategic intercession for the water needs of the world, the following guidelines may be a helpful focus for your prayer. Worship - Effective prayer begins when we worship the Lord Jesus in Spirit and in Truth. True worship enables us to walk in purity and holiness and be effective intercessors.
Adoration - As we engage in times of adoration and acknowledgment of God, He will direct our paths and direct our thoughts and attention to those things nearest His heart.
Thanksgiving - A heart of gratitude will enable us to recognize that He controls all things and that He is working everything according to His purposes. Edification - God will edify His people as we seek first His kingdom and His righteousness. He has promised to show Himself strong on our behalf as we have pure hearts before Him.
Repentance - As we receive God’s Word, confess and repent of our sins, He will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness and renew our hearts.
WHAT GOD SAYS ABOUT WATER “The poor and the needy are looking for water, but there is none. Their tongues are parched with thirst. I, the Lord, will answer them. I, the God of Israel, will not abandon them. I will make rivers flow on bare hilltops. I will make springs flow through valleys, I will turn deserts into lakes. I will turn land into springs.” Isaiah 41: 17-18
“For My people have committed a double evil: They have abandoned Me, the fountain of living water, and dug cisterns for themselves, cracked cisterns that cannot hold water.” Jeremiah 2:13
“If your enemy is hungry, give him some food to eat, and if he is thirsty, give him some water to drink.” Proverbs 25:21
“For whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because of your name as followers of Christ, truly I say to you, he will not lose his reward.” Mark 9:41 “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.” John 7:38
“Both the spirit and the bride say, ‘Come!’ Anyone who hears should say, ‘Come!’ And the one who is thirsty should come. Whoever desires should take the living water as a gift.” Revelation 22:17
“Therefore you will joyously draw water from the springs of salvation.” Isaiah 12:3
WATER FACTS A person can live weeks without food but only days without water.
Every 15 seconds, a child dies from a water-related disease.
88 percent of all diseases are caused by unsafe drinking water, inadequate sanitation and poor hygiene.
Health, malnutrition and development are real water issues. No development can be achieved until water is secure. | | Download article | | | | Related articles: | | Call to Prayer for the Global Water Crisis

| Confessions of National, Corporate & Individual Sin | You are encouraged to take a 50-day journey by using this prayer guide for individual or corporate prayer, by individuals or cell/prayer groups of congregations, to intercede for yourself, for the nation, the area or city.
The individual may or may not have done the sins described in this booklet, but can identify with the sin, on behalf of the community, like Daniel (Dan 9) and Nehemiah (Neh 1). Such a person takes the posision of intercessor and approach God on behalf of his/her community, to ask for the forgiveness of sins perpetrated in the community.
This booklet is designed to be used over a period of 50 days, but it is simply a guideline. The information may be used in any other way, for individual or corporate prayer. The prayer guide is not supposed to be used to judge others or to accuse them before God. Be sensitive on how the information regarding the community is shared.
It is our prayer that this booklet will contribute to a deeper and more intimate walk with the Triune God - Father, Son and Holy Spirit. | | Download article | | | | Related articles: | | 50 Dae Sondebelydenis (Afr) | | 50 Days -Confession of Sins | | Gobobola dibe gamotho a le mongwe, kopanelo le lefatshe lothle (Tshwana)
| Focus on establishing 24/7 houses of prayer | We continue to see an incredible increase in the number of congregations and communities that are starting to pray night and day. In South Africa there are already more than 4,600 congregations and prayer rooms where people have started to pray 24 hours per day, or that are growing towards covering 24 hours a day. Every month at least 250 new congregations are added to this number. The same is happening in Mozambique, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Swaziland, Lesotho, North Africa, the rest of the Middle East and in a great number of countries in the world. Therefore, in the next three months we will focus specifically on praying about this.
South Africa consists of about 650 cities and towns. In at least 415 of these cities and towns there is at least one congregation that has made an effort to mobilise people to establish a 24-7 prayer watch. Let us also pray for a breakthrough in the remaining 235 towns. Let us pray for a prayer watch in at least 200 of the 230 prisons in South Africa. In many prisons and an increasing number of police stations there are now prayer rooms where prisoners and policemen have started with 24-7 prayer watches. Persevere in prayer. | | Download article | | | | Related articles: | | Focus on establishing 24/7 Houses of Prayer
| Focus on establishing 24/7 houses of prayer - part 2 | | The Global Day of Prayer on Pentecost Sunday continues to grow in both depth and the number of countries taking part. It is good to see how many countries are taking to the idea of praying night-and-day for 10 days prior to Pentecost Sunday. People are becoming desperate to seek God's face. The church is beginning to understand more and more that only prayer will carry us through. May I encourage you to become part of a prayer group or a prayer event on May 11th? Join in with the 10 Days night-and-day prayer initiative of your congregation. If such an event is not being planned, consider speaking to your pastor about the possibility of becoming involved. Contact Transformation Africa for posters, 10 Days prayer calendars etc. to help you mobilise your congregation and community to pray together. Last year people in South Africa took part in the 10 Days at 3,600 venues. This year we expect the numbers to increase. | | Download article | | | | Related articles: | | Focus on establishing 24/7 houses of prayer - part 2 | |

| Kids to pray for kids - fasting | … on the F A S T track… Fasting is when you choose to give up something you really want, so you can focus on God and pray at the same time. It is not just for adults. Normally when we pray, it is with our spirit and soul (our soul is our mind, will and emotions). When we fast, we pray with our bodies too! So, when we fast, our whole person prays. What would you do if Jesus asked you to put Him above everything else in your life? We have many things in our lives that take up our time and attention – things like friends, MXIT, eating, sleeping, TV, cellular phone games, the Internet, shopping, school, etc. None of these things are wrong, but they keep our minds and bodies busy with things other than God.
On what occasions does one want to pray and fast? A 'fast' is when you willingly decide to give up things that are important to you to show you are serious about God. Sometimes it is when you need to repent of sin (1 Sa.7:5-6). Sometimes to pray for protection or a crisis (Ez.8:21-23, Est.4:15-16), or simply when you want to hear God's voice clearly (Dn.10:1-3; Ac.14:23). Jesus fasted for 40 days to be able to resist all the temptations of the devil. When we fast it should be for the right reasons (Mt.6:16-18). Jesus said when we fast we should not fast to be seen by everyone – almost like fasting in secret. But what if your friend invites you over to watch a movie and you have already decided to give up TV for a while as a way of fasting? Then it is fine to let your friend know that you are fasting. The Bible encourages us to be humble and kind when we fast (Is.58:2-11).
Don't chicken out! Sometimes when we fast, we are tempted to give up. This even happened to Jesus during his 40-day fast. He was really hungry and Satan came to tempt Him to turn stones into bread (Mt.4:1-4). You can also experience temptation during a fast. If you are tempted to break your fast before you planned, consider praying some Scriptures – and don't chicken out because it's becoming tough on you. Remember Philippians 4:13: I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
During the month of June, there is a special prayer focus on children at risk. There are millions of children who do not have enough food to eat. By fasting, we feel a little of what they experience every day of their lives. When we pray and care for poor people, it is like we are caring for God Himself (Mt.25:34-40; Ps.72:13). In His eyes, we truly worship and obey Him when we consider people in need (Is.58:6-7,10). One way we can do this is to pray for them from Lamentations 2:19: Arise, cry out in the night, as the watches of the night begin; pour out your heart like water in the presence of the Lord. Lift up your hands to him for the lives of your children, who faint from hunger at the head of every street. Will you not think about praying for children at risk from Monday to Friday? You can decide to fast one day per week by skipping one meal. You can also decide to fast from television for one week. Ask your mother to help you do it the right way.
Prayer pointers: Monday-Friday 1. Children without food. Father, I pray that You will draw hungry children to Jesus. That they will come to know Him as the Bread of Life and that whoever comes to Him will never be hungry or thirsty (Jn.6:36). Please provide food for them every day. 2. Children in danger. Father I pray for children who are sick or who are living in a war zone. Please protect them from diseases and harm to their bodies. Give them shelter and safety in times of war and disaster. Reveal Yourself as their Helper so they will not be afraid (Heb.13:6). 3. Children without parents. Heavenly Father, please watch over and care for all the children without parents. Give them shelter, food and love. Also help Christians to have a desire to defend weak and fatherless children and give them courage to speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves (Pr.31:8, Ps.82:3-4). 4. Children on the streets. Father I pray for children living on the streets in our cities and towns. They are so dirty, Father, and always begging. Forgive me for not having pity on them. Reveal Yourself to them, let them come to You and let no one hinder them, let them enter into Your kingdom (Lk.18:16). 5. Children that are abused. Father of mercy, I pray for children who are beaten, abused or misused by other people. I cannot imagine what it is really like to be treated so badly. Please will You show them that Your love and faithfulness will never leave them, write it on their hearts (Pr.3:3). Let them know for sure they are never alone, no matter how difficult things are. | | Download article
| Pray for the Persecuted Church | International statistics show that an estimated 150,000 Christians are martyred every year. More than 200 million Christians are restricted from living out their Christianity. There is a growing onslaught on Christianity world-wide. More and more countries are accepting legislation that creates greater difficulty for Christians to live out their faith and restricts them from gathering freely. This is true of China, Russia, a number of 2 countries in the Middle East, even Europe and Canada. There are also continuous efforts to ban the Bible.
Let us not neglect to pray for our brothers and sisters in difficult circumstances. | | Download article | | | | Related articles: | | Pray for the Persecuted Church
| PRAYER AND FASTING FOR GODLY GOVERNANCE! (SA) | In response to our Extra-Ordinary Prayer Meeting on Saturday (6/9/2008) at Provincial Parliament, there was unanimous agreement that we should set aside one day a week up to the elections:
FASTING & PRAYER for our NATION. So in obedience to God’s Word 1 Timothy 3:14-15, collectively we want to set aside: MONDAY for the day of FASTING & PRAYER. Thereafter, please set your cell phones to remind you everyday at 12 noon to pray for our Leaders in Authority as well as for our Spiritual Leaders. The greatest privilege and most revolutionary power available to the Christian is Prayer.
“If you abide in Me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it shall be done for you” John 15:7 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go to the Father” John 14:12 The power of united prayer was demonstrated by the early church. Acts 4……they prayed together with one heart, mind and spirit. If we turn to the historical records of the Old Testament, we find a number of occasions where fasting and prayer brought forth the dynamic and powerful intervention by God. Jehoshaphat conquers Without Fighting : 2 Chronicles 20:1-30 Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, received word that a very large army from the territories of Moab, Ammon and Mt. Seir was invading his kingdom from the east. Realising that he had no military resources with which to meet this challenge, Jehoshaphat turned to God for help. His first decisive act ….v3 “he proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah” Judah’s Response: - Collective fasting and prayer for divine intervention. - The common danger facing them brought them together as one. - Their jealousies and rivalries between them were set aside. - They were called to protect their common inheritance, rather than promote their individual differences Practical lessons to be learnt: 1. The anti-Christian forces that are at work in the world today are just as hostile and just as formidable as the army that threatened Judah in the days of Jehoshaphat.
2. These forces are united in hatred and opposition toward all who truly love and serve the Lord Jesus Christ.
3. They are not concerned about internal denominational distinctions between Christians. They are not disposed to spare the Baptist at the expense of the Methodists, nor the Anglicans at the expense of the Pentecostals.
4. Therefore this is no time for Christians to emphasize denominational issues that have divided us in the past. Rather it is time for all God’s people to follow the example of Judah and unite in prayer and fasting. God’s Sovereignty “You sit above the vault of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers. You reduce rulers to nothing and make judges of the earth meaningless. It is He who changes the times and the epochs; He removes kings and establishes kings; He gives wisdom to wise men and knowledge to men of understanding” Isaiah 40 & Daniel 2 Pray for the Leaders of our Country by name --- That they might have protection, guidance, wisdom, and awareness of God’s presence in mind and heart and that they might practice integrity. I Samuel 12:14; 1 Timothy 2:1-6 Pray that: - They might trust God with all their heart and not lean on their own understanding; that they will acknowledge Him in all their ways (Proverbs 3:5-6). - They will seek to have a conscience void of offence toward God and men (Acts 24:16). - God will place men and women of righteousness, such as Joseph, Daniel, Nehemiah, Mordecai, Esther and Deborah into positions of authority to lead the nation in righteousness (Proverbs 14:34;16:12). - Legislation in our country will be in line with principles from the Word of God. - Christians will be aware of governmental issues; will support leaders in prayer and act regarding issues concerning the moral and spiritual climate of the country. - Christians to become vital witnesses for Christ through their lives and words (II Corinthians 5:17-20) - Christians to meet the conditions for revival set forth in II Chronicles 7:14 1. Humble themselves (I Peter 5:6) 2. Pray effectually (James 5:16; Luke 18:1) 3. Seek God’s face (Jeremiah 29:13) 4. Turn from their wicked ways (1 John 1:8-9) Remember: The end-time purpose of God is the restoration and completion of the church. (His Body)

1. South Africa is offering the nations an African “calabash”, but Jesus offered us the Cup of the New Covenant filled with his blood (1 Cor 11:25). Eating and drinking communion is the most powerful weapon against the works of darkness. The action of breaking the bread and drinking the wine is the proclamation of the death and blood of Jesus and victory over all sin, Satan and the spirit of death (1 Cor 11:26). This weapon in the hands of born-again believers with a holy lifestyle, can break the hold of the enemy over nations. Use this powerful weapon as often as possible before, during and after the World Cup. Pray that through the power of the blood, the words of our testimony as Christians and our willingness to lay down our lives for the truth and the message of salvation through Christ, the gospel will gain victory over all the work of Satan in South Africa (Rev 12:11). Pray for the breaking of the curses of all ungodly rituals, invocations and occult ceremonies before and during the World Cup. Pray that the plans of the evil one to cause violence, crime, sexual immorality, corruption and greed, will be frustrated and nullified. Pray for the purifying and cleansing power of the blood of Jesus against all sin.
2. During the World Cup, Africa wants to release a “new sound”. This “new sound” is linked with the blowing of the vuvuzela. The vuvuzela is a trumpet that is used in certain tribes to call the people to gather at the “kgotla” (court site where tribal leaders gather to make decisions). Whenever you hear the sound of the vuvuzela, call for the sound of heaven to be released on the earth. Call for and proclaim the “Voice of God” (Ps 29) over the waters, the mountains, the valleys, the plains, the cities, the stadiums and the nations gathering in South Africa. Pray that people will hear God’s voice and respond to it (John 10:27).
3. Pray for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit with the power to convict people of sin, righteousness and judgment (John 16:8). Pray that people will be convicted of the sin of unbelief, of the revelation that Jesus is ruling in heaven at the Father’s right hand, and that Satan is judged and has no more power to keep people in bondage.
4. Pray for God’s will to be done in the lives of every inhabitant of South Africa and every visitor from the nations. In the name of Jesus pray for every hindrance that the kingdom of darkness has employed to keep people in darkness, will be removed and destroyed (2 Cor 4:3; 2 Cor 10:4). Pray that many people who visit South Africa will have the opportunity to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ clearly explained. Pray a blessing over every outreach aimed at spreading the good news about Jesus Christ during this time. Pray for every Christian who will be involved in evangelism, social outreach, hospitality, security or any involvement regarding visitors to our nation, to be equipped, anointed and commissioned by the Holy Spirit to touch the lives of people they meet. Take authority over and resist every spirit that was sent to hinder the work of both the Holy Spirit and believers. Ask God to pour out his Spirit on South Africa and to fulfill the prophecy that a fire of revival will start in South Africa and touch the whole world. Pray for local churches to rise up and grasp the opportunities to further the kingdom of God in both their local communities and other nations of the world.
5. Declare the Name of Jesus Christ over South Africa as often as possible through this prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on South Africa. Bless this nation and make it a blessing to the nations of the world! Reveal your purposes for allowing South Africa to be released onto the global scene. Let your kingdom come, let your will be done, in and through South Africa, as it is in heaven!

| Special request for prayer on abortion and witchcraft | Currently two issues need serious prayer in our country. The first is the Choice on Termination of Pregnancy Amendment Bill (abortion) and the other the Traditional Health Practitioners Bill. The first bill extends the number of facilities offering abortion and allows nurses to perform them, while the second provides for state recognition of witchdoctors. These issues are of historic significance in the spiritual history of South Africa, because they deal with two significant evils facing the South African society. Abortion has killed more than 650,000 babies since legalised on demand in 1996, it is also causing persecution of conscientiously objecting Christian health care workers in hospitals and clinics throughout South Africa.
The above laws were originally passed in 2004, without proper and fair public debate or hearings. Nevertheless, in 2006, the Constitutional Court ruled that the public hearings had not been properly conducted, thus giving us a window of mercy to repent of our sins. In the Bible, newborn babies were sacrificed to Baal (Jer.32:35). Today babies are sacrificed by abortion to the gods of choice, materialism and liberty. Right now, we are not just dealing with a political process. This is not just prayer about two moral/ethical issues. There are spiritual forces at work that strongly influence governments and political decisions. As Christians we must not be ignorant about the spiritual battle that we are involved in and the influence of demonic powers on nations and governments (Dn.10:20; 2Cor.10:3-6; Eph.6:12).
Let us make a special effort to pray about these issues in our different prayer groups, Bible study groups and everywhere and when we have an opportunity.
Prayer pointers: • Give thanks to God for giving us another chance at changing these laws. • Pray that the church will be the voice of God's heart in very practical and uplifting ways. • Pray for those activists who take a bold stand in representing Christian values in our Government, for favour, for humility and much authority. • Ask for them to have wisdom and revelation in their debates with media, in lobbying government and in lobbying Christian groups and churches. • Lift up the government before the Lord, as for their eyes to be opened to righteousness and justice and Biblical principles. • Let us not pray against the government, but rather for them to have revelation of God's plans and purposes, so His kingdom will become visible in our government as it is His intend. (See the prayer following).
Scripture proclamation focus for Government to glorify God Praise be to Your Name o God for ever and ever; wisdom and power belong to You. You change times and seasons; You set up kings and deposes them. You give wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning. You reveal deep and hidden things; You know what lies in darkness, and light dwells with You (Dn.2:20-22).
Father, with prayers, intercession and thanksgiving we come before Your throne for kings, our government, and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness - for this is good, and pleases You God our Saviour, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth (1Tim.2:1-4). Our rulers’ hearts are in Your hand, Lord; direct it like a watercourse wherever You please (Pr.21:1). May this government rule through justice so that we can have stability in this country. Take greed from their hearts and protect them from taking bribes (Pr.29:4). Let our government deal honestly and with fairness towards the poor (Pr.29:14).
Show the president, the cabinet and all government officials what is good and what You require from them. Work in their hearts to work justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly in Your presence (Mic.6:8). Therefore, in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ we proclaim: You kings, be wise; be warned, you rulers of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear and rejoice with trembling (Ps.2:10-11). Lord God, fill the hearts of our rulers with love and faithfulness that will keep them safe and in this way we will have security and peace (Pr.20:28). Will You send Your Holy Spirit into our government buildings and places where our rulers gather, pass laws and make decisions, to convict of sin, righteousness and judgement? (Jn.16:8-11)
Father we know that our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms (Eph.6:12). As the church we pray for our government for protection against the powers of this dark world and that they will not be involved in witchcraft, idolatry or any form of occultism. Have mercy on us. We pray that they will submit themselves to You. As the church, we resist the devil where he tries to attack, ensnare and deceive the government (Jas 4:7). Father, the weapons that You gave us, are not the weapons of the world - they have divine power to demolish strongholds, even demonic strongholds. In the Name of Jesus Christ we demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ (2Cor.10:4-6).
We pray for a church that will prophetically preach the Word to the government: a church that will be prepared in season and out of season to correct, rebuke and encourage; that the church will do it with great patience and careful instruction (2Tim.4:2).
