120 Days Prayer for Revival | This prayer calendar can be used for both personal and corporate prayer. The prayer focus is from 2 Chronicles 7:14, “If my people will humble themselves, pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sins and heal their land.” Each day’s focus is on three different aspects of revival:
1. CONDITIONS FOR REVIVAL, i.e. humility, prayer, seeking God’s face and turning from sin.
2. FOOD FOR THOUGHT: This is a thought-provoking statement from those who have experienced the outpouring of God’s grace in communal, national or personal revivals in the past. Ponder on these statements and allow the Holy Spirit to stir your heart as you pray and seek God’s face for revival.
3. CEASELESS PRAYER: Included also for each day is a one-sentence prayer. This prayer may be prayed as often as remembered during the day as a ceaseless cry of the heart.

| 24/7 Prayer Focus: June-September 2008 | The prayer focuses on this page are to encourage those involved in a 24/7 house of prayer to focus on the same things at the same time in prayer. These are only guidelines and watch coordinators can add their own focuses as the Holy Spirit leads them. More detailed information on these issues is available free of charge from our website at: www.jwipn.com. Also remember to subscribe to our weekly prayer alert at cape@jwipn.com which covers more current issues in prayer on a weekly basis.
Prayer focus June 2008: Children and youth focus During June we encourage prayer watches nationwide to focus on the children and youth in our nation. Two major events during this month are the prayer focus of Children at Risk; see information on 6 June and also www.viva.org of pray@viva.org and national Youth Day, 16 June 2008. • Pray for children who are used as sex slaves, for child labour and the millions of street children that are homeless. • Pray that these children will be reached with the gospel. Also for their physical care. • Pray for the hundreds of thousands of HIV-orphans. Ask that the church will take responsibility for these children and care for all their needs. There are already hundreds of congregations that reach out to such children. Pray for these congregations for funds, workers and also for many other congregations to join them. • Only 50% of all children born now in our nation will have a chance of reaching the age of 15, the main reasons being AIDS and disease.
June 16 is Youth Day in South Africa. Our youth has an enormous influence on the nation. We are rapidly moving towards the stage where at least 50% of all people in our country will be under 25 years of age. • Pray for the salvation of young people in our nation. • Pray about drugs, sexual involvement before marriage, gangsterism and the influence these activities have on our young people. • The young people are not only the leaders of tomorrow; they are already leading in many areas. They determine trends and culture for the future. • Pray Acts 2:17-20 for this generation of young people. May they rise as prophets and priests in our nation.
Prayer focus July 2008: Revival in the church in South Africa The church desperately needs revival, renewal, reformation and restoration. Let us focus on the church during July. • Pray for pastors to return to their first love, a new intimacy with God, a deeper understanding of His character and His will for their lives. • Pray for a passion for souls in the church - to see unsaved people coming to Christ. • Pray that God will pour out His Spirit of prayer and supplication on the church. • Pray for Christians in the marketplace to live as ministers of the gospel in the marketplace. • Pray for the anointing of the Holy Spirit on preaching. Every year nearly 4 million sermons are being preached in this nation. • Pray that the church will become involved in the social needs of people in all spheres of life.
Prayer focus August 2008: China The 808 China Blessing is a global initiative to unite a billion Christians across the globe to pray for China on 08-08-2008 at 08h08 pm. Prayer pointers that will assist you in focusing your prayers on the specific needs in China will be available each month leading up to the 8th of August, on the 808 China Blessing website - www.808chinablessing.org. In this booklet, we have a twofold focus in prayer on China for the duration of the Olympic Games. Firstly we will pray for favour for the gospel with the peoples of the world visiting China. Secondly we will focus on an issue concerning the gospel in the church and among the people of China. Please consider praying and fasting, asking God for many spiritual breakthroughs for both the nations of the world and China during this time. See the article on China on August 13th. Nearly 25% of all people in the world are Chinese. • There is a real and great revival right now in China. Pray for leaders, and solid Bible-founded teaching. • Pray for the Back to Jerusalem Movement. The church in China is in the process of sending 100,000 missionaries from China back to Jerusalem. The goal is to reach all the nations between China and Jerusalem with the gospel. Hundreds of Chinese missionaries have already left China. Some have already paid the price with their lives. • Pray for the protection of the church from false teachings and sectarianism. • Pray for Christians going into China during the Olympics - to be wise and living witnesses. Pray for many organisations to take the gospel into China through this open door. Pray for their protection.
Prayer focus September 2008: Ramadan: 1–30 September 2008 We will have detailed prayer pointers on how you can pray for breakthroughs for the gospel for the 2.7 billion people globally that call themselves Muslims. During September they celebrate Ramadan – for them a time of fasting and dedication to Allah. Over the last number of years increasing numbers of Muslims are coming to the Lord every year. Contact us in time if you need the information before the first of September. During September there will be prayer pointers in this prayer guide every day. Encourage prayer watches to focus in September on prayer for Muslims all over the world. We plan to send at least 80 prayer teams into nations in the Middle East and Central Asia to pray there during Ramadan. Contact Project Macedonia for details if you are interested in becoming part of such a prayer team or if you want to take your own prayer team. | Confessions of National, Corporate & Individual Sin | You are encouraged to take a 50-day journey by using this prayer guide for individual or corporate prayer, by individuals or cell/prayer groups of congregations, to intercede for yourself, for the nation, the area or city.
The individual may or may not have done the sins described in this booklet, but can identify with the sin, on behalf of the community, like Daniel (Dan 9) and Nehemiah (Neh 1). Such a person takes the posision of intercessor and approach God on behalf of his/her community, to ask for the forgiveness of sins perpetrated in the community.
This booklet is designed to be used over a period of 50 days, but it is simply a guideline. The information may be used in any other way, for individual or corporate prayer. The prayer guide is not supposed to be used to judge others or to accuse them before God. Be sensitive on how the information regarding the community is shared.
It is our prayer that this booklet will contribute to a deeper and more intimate walk with the Triune God - Father, Son and Holy Spirit. | | Download article | | | | Related articles: | | 50 Dae Sondebelydenis (Afr) | | 50 Days -Confession of Sins | | Gobobola dibe gamotho a le mongwe, kopanelo le lefatshe lothle (Tshwana)

| Focus on establishing 24/7 houses of prayer | We continue to see an incredible increase in the number of congregations and communities that are starting to pray night and day. In South Africa there are already more than 4,600 congregations and prayer rooms where people have started to pray 24 hours per day, or that are growing towards covering 24 hours a day. Every month at least 250 new congregations are added to this number. The same is happening in Mozambique, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Swaziland, Lesotho, North Africa, the rest of the Middle East and in a great number of countries in the world. Therefore, in the next three months we will focus specifically on praying about this.
South Africa consists of about 650 cities and towns. In at least 415 of these cities and towns there is at least one congregation that has made an effort to mobilise people to establish a 24-7 prayer watch. Let us also pray for a breakthrough in the remaining 235 towns. Let us pray for a prayer watch in at least 200 of the 230 prisons in South Africa. In many prisons and an increasing number of police stations there are now prayer rooms where prisoners and policemen have started with 24-7 prayer watches. Persevere in prayer. | | Download article | | | | Related articles: | | Focus on establishing 24/7 Houses of Prayer
| Focus on establishing 24/7 houses of prayer - part 2 | | The Global Day of Prayer on Pentecost Sunday continues to grow in both depth and the number of countries taking part. It is good to see how many countries are taking to the idea of praying night-and-day for 10 days prior to Pentecost Sunday. People are becoming desperate to seek God's face. The church is beginning to understand more and more that only prayer will carry us through. May I encourage you to become part of a prayer group or a prayer event on May 11th? Join in with the 10 Days night-and-day prayer initiative of your congregation. If such an event is not being planned, consider speaking to your pastor about the possibility of becoming involved. Contact Transformation Africa for posters, 10 Days prayer calendars etc. to help you mobilise your congregation and community to pray together. Last year people in South Africa took part in the 10 Days at 3,600 venues. This year we expect the numbers to increase. | | Download article | | | | Related articles: | | Focus on establishing 24/7 houses of prayer - part 2 | |

| International Call to Prayer for Northern Uganda and Surrounding Regions | The International Call to Prayer for Northern Uganda and Surrounding Regions is an international call to repentance and intercession to end Africa's longest running war.
This call to prayer is rooted in the confidence that the enslavement of children is an abomination to God (Matt. 18:6), that His will is for none of these little ones to perish (Matt. 18:14) but rather that they have life, and have it abundantly (John 10:10).
The 22-year war in northern Uganda has been Africa's longest running conflict. Tens of thousands of children have been kidnapped, tortured and forced into a hellish slavery as soldiers, laborers, and sexual slaves by Joseph Kony and rebel group "Lord's Resistance Army" (LRA). This terrible and tragic war has claimed hundreds of thousands of lives, displaced millions and left generations of children in crisis.
It is of the utmost urgency that the Body of Christ arise and engage in spiritual warfare and intercession concerning this crisis right now, as peace talks have failed and the LRA has recently conducted raids and abductions in southern Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Central African Republic. Your prayers are needed.
We earnestly ask all ministries and individuals worldwide to intercede and mobilize intercession until justice is brought forth unto victory.
Please Pray: For the Captives to be Set Free: Intercede for the total deliverance of the thousands of child soldiers and slaves currently being held captive by Joseph Kony and the LRA. Pray for child abductions to cease and for God to bring a permanent end to this abominable practice.
For the Welfare of Children: The most horrific crimes have been committed against the children of northern Uganda and surrounding nations by Joseph Kony and the LRA; there is a desperate need for intercession and action to support these children. Pray for all children that have been enslaved by the LRA and that have been traumatized by this war to be completely healed and restored through the power of Jesus Christ. Pray that the worldwide Christian community would have compassion on these children and that their spiritual and physical needs would be met. Pray for the great destiny God has for these children to be fulfilled.
For Kony and the LRA: Joseph Kony is the founder and leader of the LRA. Pray that he will release all captives, stop attacks and completely surrender to justice. Pray for the disarmament, demobilization, and permanent disbandment of the LRA. Intercede for the members of the LRA; that they will come to repentance and be saved.
For the Khartoum Government: The Islamic Sudanese government of Omar al-Bashir, the same responsible for the Darfur crisis today, has been supporting the LRA since 1994 through supplying weapons, ammunition, fuel, and all necessary resources. Intercede for Omar al-Bashir and the Khartoum government to be stopped and brought to accountability and repentance. Pray for new, godly leaders and righteous government over Sudan.
For Peace to Reign in Northern Uganda and Surrounding Nations: The LRA has recently conducted raids and abductions in southern Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Central African Republic. Pray for violence and injustice to be utterly halted, and for Christ's power to bring hope, redemption, and true and enduring peace to these nations.
For the Land of Northern Uganda to be Healed: Intercede for the land of northern Uganda to be fully cleansed, fully healed, and fully set apart for God's glory. Pray for full recovery and development throughout the region, and for necessary support to the millions who have been displaced by war in Uganda. Pray for the full restoration and healing of all families and individuals that have been affected by this war. Pray that the worldwide Christian community would unite in prayer for northern Uganda and engage in a conquering spiritual warfare on behalf of this land.
For unification: Decades of war and corruption have caused division in Uganda. Pray for the unification of southern and northern Uganda under the banner of Jesus Christ --- pray that the walls of division and prejudice would crumble, and that there would be repentance, healing and forgiveness in Jesus Name.
For victory: Pray for God to end the war, and that the children of Uganda, Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Central African Republic would thrive and prosper. Pray for revival and transformation in all of these nations; that what the Enemy meant for harm God would work together for good right now by causing the Kingdom of Christ to be established throughout the entire region. Pray for the Church in these nations to prosper and grow into an united and unstoppable army that will disciple the nations and take by force the kingdom of heaven which has suffered violence. Pray that Christ's Glory, Presence, and Love would utterly fumigate, transform, and heal Uganda, Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Central African Republic. Intercede for the destiny of these nations to be fulfilled and that God would transform the world through their testimony.
For the revival of the Church worldwide: Pray for the fulfillment of 2 Chronicles 7:14 worldwide; that we, the Global Church and Body of Christ would humble ourselves, pray and seek God's face, and turn from our wicked ways so that God's healing flood will be released upon the nations. Pray that our Lord's personal prayer, that "they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. (John 17:21)", would now come to fulfillment; that we would truly love one another as He has loved us (John 13:34), that the Body of Christ will be healed and made perfect in unity (John 17:23) to manifest God's glory to the nations. Pray that we would be awakened by the Spirit of Truth (John 16:13) to see the whiteness of the world harvest (John 4:35) and to understand God's love and urgency for the nations (Mark 16:15); that we would pray, give, and go for the sake of the Kingdom of Heaven (Matthew 13:44-46) and Christ's Great Commission (Matthew 28:19).
"I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." Matthew 16:19
"Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven." Matthew 18:19
"But let justice roll down like waters and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream!" Amos 5:24

| Kids to pray for kids - fasting | … on the F A S T track… Fasting is when you choose to give up something you really want, so you can focus on God and pray at the same time. It is not just for adults. Normally when we pray, it is with our spirit and soul (our soul is our mind, will and emotions). When we fast, we pray with our bodies too! So, when we fast, our whole person prays. What would you do if Jesus asked you to put Him above everything else in your life? We have many things in our lives that take up our time and attention – things like friends, MXIT, eating, sleeping, TV, cellular phone games, the Internet, shopping, school, etc. None of these things are wrong, but they keep our minds and bodies busy with things other than God.
On what occasions does one want to pray and fast? A 'fast' is when you willingly decide to give up things that are important to you to show you are serious about God. Sometimes it is when you need to repent of sin (1 Sa.7:5-6). Sometimes to pray for protection or a crisis (Ez.8:21-23, Est.4:15-16), or simply when you want to hear God's voice clearly (Dn.10:1-3; Ac.14:23). Jesus fasted for 40 days to be able to resist all the temptations of the devil. When we fast it should be for the right reasons (Mt.6:16-18). Jesus said when we fast we should not fast to be seen by everyone – almost like fasting in secret. But what if your friend invites you over to watch a movie and you have already decided to give up TV for a while as a way of fasting? Then it is fine to let your friend know that you are fasting. The Bible encourages us to be humble and kind when we fast (Is.58:2-11).
Don't chicken out! Sometimes when we fast, we are tempted to give up. This even happened to Jesus during his 40-day fast. He was really hungry and Satan came to tempt Him to turn stones into bread (Mt.4:1-4). You can also experience temptation during a fast. If you are tempted to break your fast before you planned, consider praying some Scriptures – and don't chicken out because it's becoming tough on you. Remember Philippians 4:13: I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
During the month of June, there is a special prayer focus on children at risk. There are millions of children who do not have enough food to eat. By fasting, we feel a little of what they experience every day of their lives. When we pray and care for poor people, it is like we are caring for God Himself (Mt.25:34-40; Ps.72:13). In His eyes, we truly worship and obey Him when we consider people in need (Is.58:6-7,10). One way we can do this is to pray for them from Lamentations 2:19: Arise, cry out in the night, as the watches of the night begin; pour out your heart like water in the presence of the Lord. Lift up your hands to him for the lives of your children, who faint from hunger at the head of every street. Will you not think about praying for children at risk from Monday to Friday? You can decide to fast one day per week by skipping one meal. You can also decide to fast from television for one week. Ask your mother to help you do it the right way.
Prayer pointers: Monday-Friday 1. Children without food. Father, I pray that You will draw hungry children to Jesus. That they will come to know Him as the Bread of Life and that whoever comes to Him will never be hungry or thirsty (Jn.6:36). Please provide food for them every day. 2. Children in danger. Father I pray for children who are sick or who are living in a war zone. Please protect them from diseases and harm to their bodies. Give them shelter and safety in times of war and disaster. Reveal Yourself as their Helper so they will not be afraid (Heb.13:6). 3. Children without parents. Heavenly Father, please watch over and care for all the children without parents. Give them shelter, food and love. Also help Christians to have a desire to defend weak and fatherless children and give them courage to speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves (Pr.31:8, Ps.82:3-4). 4. Children on the streets. Father I pray for children living on the streets in our cities and towns. They are so dirty, Father, and always begging. Forgive me for not having pity on them. Reveal Yourself to them, let them come to You and let no one hinder them, let them enter into Your kingdom (Lk.18:16). 5. Children that are abused. Father of mercy, I pray for children who are beaten, abused or misused by other people. I cannot imagine what it is really like to be treated so badly. Please will You show them that Your love and faithfulness will never leave them, write it on their hearts (Pr.3:3). Let them know for sure they are never alone, no matter how difficult things are. | | Download article
| Pray for the Persecuted Church | International statistics show that an estimated 150,000 Christians are martyred every year. More than 200 million Christians are restricted from living out their Christianity. There is a growing onslaught on Christianity world-wide. More and more countries are accepting legislation that creates greater difficulty for Christians to live out their faith and restricts them from gathering freely. This is true of China, Russia, a number of 2 countries in the Middle East, even Europe and Canada. There are also continuous efforts to ban the Bible.
Let us not neglect to pray for our brothers and sisters in difficult circumstances. | | Download article | | | | Related articles: | | Pray for the Persecuted Church
| Prayer for Zimbabwe | Prayer for Zimbabwe
Issued on 6 June by Jericho Walls Prayer Network info@jwipn.com / www.jwipn.com
It is for years now that the nation of Zimbabwe is going through severe turmoil. The people of this nation are in one of the worst humanitarian crises known to the world – famine, as well as threatened by a political time bomb. On 27 June, 2008, they will have another round of elections to vote for president. There are rumours and reports of a lot of atrocities committed in this nation. The solution to this nation’s problems is not political, social, economical or humanitarian, but the solution is spiritual. Over the past few years many people prayed and are still praying that God will intervene in this nation’s struggle. Now is the time that we must express our faith that God is in control and that He does answer prayer. Let us, as never before, again cry out to God to have mercy and let us trust Him.
Mar 11:23 Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, 'Be taken up and thrown into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him.
“I confess and believe that the Triune God – Father, Son and Holy Spirit, is sovereign and rules from heaven and is in control over Zimbabwe!” Psa 47:8 God reigns over the nations; God sits on his holy throne. Jer 10:7 Who would not fear you, O King of the nations? For this is your due; for among all the wise ones of the nations and in all their kingdoms there is none like you.
“I confess and believe that God sees and responds to everything that happens in Zimbabwe!” Psa 2:1-4 Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD and against his Anointed, saying, "Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us." He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord holds them in derision. Psa 33:13-15 The LORD looks down from heaven; he sees all the children of man; from where he sits enthroned he looks out on all the inhabitants of the earth, who fashions the hearts of them all and observes all their deeds. Gen 16:13 So she called the name of the LORD who spoke to her, "You are a God of seeing," for she said, "Truly here I have seen him who looks after me."
“I confess and believe that God has a purpose and a plan for Zimbabwe!” Act 14:16 In past generations he allowed all the nations to walk in their own ways. Act 17:26-27 And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place, that they should seek God, in the hope that they might feel their way toward him and find him. Yet he is actually not far from each one of us. Isa 14:26 This is the purpose that is purposed concerning the whole earth, and this is the hand that is stretched out over all the nations.
“I confess and believe that God answers prayer!” Isa 41:17 When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue is parched with thirst, I the LORD will answer them; I the God of Israel will not forsake them. Isa 58:9-10 Then you shall call, and the LORD will answer; you shall cry, and he will say, 'Here I am.' If you take away the yoke from your midst, the pointing of the finger, and speaking wickedness, if you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darkness and your gloom be as the noonday. Matt.7:7 Keep on asking and it will be given to you.
“I confess and believe that God will bring salvation!” Psa 42:11 Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God. Psa 79:9 Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of your name; deliver us, and atone for our sins, for your name's sake!
“I confess and believe that God wants the wicked to repent and turn to Him!” Eze 18:23 Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked, declares the Lord GOD, and not rather that he should turn from his way and live?
“I confess and believe that the lives of the righteous are in God’s hand and that He controls life and death!” Job 12:10 In his hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of all mankind.
“I confess and believe that justice will come to Zimbabwe!” Luk 18:7 And will not God give justice to his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them?
“I confess and believe that God’s mercy will triumph over judgment!” Jas 2:13 For judgment is without mercy to one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.
“I confess and believe that forgiveness is available for every sin of Zimbabwe!” Eph 1:7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, Luk 24:46-47 and said to them, "Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem.
“I confess and believe that light will overcome darkness!” Joh 1:4-5 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
“I confess and believe that God loves the people of Zimbabwe!” Rom 8:35-39 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? As it is written, "For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered." No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
“I confess and believe that the church in Zimbabwe will bring glory to the Name of Jesus!” Mat 16:18 And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
“I confess and believe that help is available right now at the throne of grace in this hour of Zimbabwe’s need!” Heb 4:16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

| Praying Through the Window 9: 1-31 Oct 2007 | This will be the 9th year in a row that this initiative will encourage millions of Christians to pray for the unsaved people of the world. The 10/40 Window represents a rectangular area of the world, extending from 10 degrees to 40 degrees north of the equator and spanning the globe from western Africa to eastern Asia. Over 4 billion people live in the 10/40 Window and 1.3 billion have never heard the gospel message even once. Every major non-Christian religion is headquartered in the 10/40 Window, including: Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Tribal religions and Atheism. Research shows that at least 26 nations in the 10/40 Window are now gospel-ready! However, many of these 10/40 Window nations lack religious freedom.
Praying Through the Window 9 is a world-wide prayer initiative also focusing on the Persecuted Church in the 10/40 Window. Christian Believers in these nations are intimidated, raped, harassed, tortured, pressured to renounce their faith, discriminated against, denied health care, education and jobs, starved and even murdered for worshipping the one, true God. It is a horrifying reality that more Christians were killed for their faith in the 20th century than in all the previous 19 centuries combined. The largest group of people being persecuted for their faith in the world today are Christians.
This initiative will commence on October 1st to 31st 2007. Prayer pointers are included in the attached document and a prayer calender can be ordered from WINDOW INTERNATIONAL NETWORK. For more information on this specific initiative, you can visit their website at: www.win1040.com or e-mail: win@win1040.com

| Special request for prayer on abortion and witchcraft | Currently two issues need serious prayer in our country. The first is the Choice on Termination of Pregnancy Amendment Bill (abortion) and the other the Traditional Health Practitioners Bill. The first bill extends the number of facilities offering abortion and allows nurses to perform them, while the second provides for state recognition of witchdoctors. These issues are of historic significance in the spiritual history of South Africa, because they deal with two significant evils facing the South African society. Abortion has killed more than 650,000 babies since legalised on demand in 1996, it is also causing persecution of conscientiously objecting Christian health care workers in hospitals and clinics throughout South Africa.
The above laws were originally passed in 2004, without proper and fair public debate or hearings. Nevertheless, in 2006, the Constitutional Court ruled that the public hearings had not been properly conducted, thus giving us a window of mercy to repent of our sins. In the Bible, newborn babies were sacrificed to Baal (Jer.32:35). Today babies are sacrificed by abortion to the gods of choice, materialism and liberty. Right now, we are not just dealing with a political process. This is not just prayer about two moral/ethical issues. There are spiritual forces at work that strongly influence governments and political decisions. As Christians we must not be ignorant about the spiritual battle that we are involved in and the influence of demonic powers on nations and governments (Dn.10:20; 2Cor.10:3-6; Eph.6:12).
Let us make a special effort to pray about these issues in our different prayer groups, Bible study groups and everywhere and when we have an opportunity.
Prayer pointers: • Give thanks to God for giving us another chance at changing these laws. • Pray that the church will be the voice of God's heart in very practical and uplifting ways. • Pray for those activists who take a bold stand in representing Christian values in our Government, for favour, for humility and much authority. • Ask for them to have wisdom and revelation in their debates with media, in lobbying government and in lobbying Christian groups and churches. • Lift up the government before the Lord, as for their eyes to be opened to righteousness and justice and Biblical principles. • Let us not pray against the government, but rather for them to have revelation of God's plans and purposes, so His kingdom will become visible in our government as it is His intend. (See the prayer following).
Scripture proclamation focus for Government to glorify God Praise be to Your Name o God for ever and ever; wisdom and power belong to You. You change times and seasons; You set up kings and deposes them. You give wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning. You reveal deep and hidden things; You know what lies in darkness, and light dwells with You (Dn.2:20-22).
Father, with prayers, intercession and thanksgiving we come before Your throne for kings, our government, and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness - for this is good, and pleases You God our Saviour, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth (1Tim.2:1-4). Our rulers’ hearts are in Your hand, Lord; direct it like a watercourse wherever You please (Pr.21:1). May this government rule through justice so that we can have stability in this country. Take greed from their hearts and protect them from taking bribes (Pr.29:4). Let our government deal honestly and with fairness towards the poor (Pr.29:14).
Show the president, the cabinet and all government officials what is good and what You require from them. Work in their hearts to work justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly in Your presence (Mic.6:8). Therefore, in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ we proclaim: You kings, be wise; be warned, you rulers of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear and rejoice with trembling (Ps.2:10-11). Lord God, fill the hearts of our rulers with love and faithfulness that will keep them safe and in this way we will have security and peace (Pr.20:28). Will You send Your Holy Spirit into our government buildings and places where our rulers gather, pass laws and make decisions, to convict of sin, righteousness and judgement? (Jn.16:8-11)
Father we know that our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms (Eph.6:12). As the church we pray for our government for protection against the powers of this dark world and that they will not be involved in witchcraft, idolatry or any form of occultism. Have mercy on us. We pray that they will submit themselves to You. As the church, we resist the devil where he tries to attack, ensnare and deceive the government (Jas 4:7). Father, the weapons that You gave us, are not the weapons of the world - they have divine power to demolish strongholds, even demonic strongholds. In the Name of Jesus Christ we demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ (2Cor.10:4-6).
We pray for a church that will prophetically preach the Word to the government: a church that will be prepared in season and out of season to correct, rebuke and encourage; that the church will do it with great patience and careful instruction (2Tim.4:2).
